May 3 - "Telling in Detail How God Used Them!"

Key Focus:

  • We want to develop a sense of partnership with God in our lives and in our work together as a church family all this month. In addition to Acts 4:26-28, we want to emphasize God's work in our lives and our partnership with him in that work. In addition to the passages listed below, these are a few good ones to stimulate ideas and thought:
    • Romans 8:28-29
    • Philippians 2:12-13
    • Psalm 139
  • The NASB captures it well in the following Scripture, notice highlights:
    • Therefore when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at bAthens alone, and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith. (1 Thessalonians 3:1-2)
  • The monthly focus will be on celebrating victories ("wins") that God has given us as He uses us to do His work and bring Himself glory.
Key SoHills Emphasis:
  • Phil will wear a baseball uniform to emphasize the theme of celebrating
    • Celebrating WATS
    • Griggs interview (Skype with PPT?) reminding folks of their ministry in S.A. planting house churches and also working with the homeless
  • Celebration cards in the pews for folks to use to share their "God & ministry celebrations" for the past school year
Key Scriptures:
  • Acts 4:26-28 msg
    • Finally, they returned by ship to Antioch of Syria, where their journey had begun. The believers there had entrusted them to the grace of God to do the work they had now completed. Upon arriving in Antioch, they called the church together and reported everything God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles, too. And they stayed there with the believers for a long time.
  • Philippians 1:3-5 tniv
    • I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now ...
Drama, Media, & Connecting Pieces:
  • WATS Video
  • Pre-video
  • Phil on baseball field: setting up the whole idea of celebrating wins. Sold peanuts from the first Ranger game in Arlington and been a fan all of this time. Not many wins to celebrate, but here at Southern Hills, God has given us a lot to celebrate and we have probably not done a very good job of doing that. We don't want to do this to be braggy, but to recognize that God has invited us into a partnership with Him and done great things among us. So this month, we are going to do what Paul and Barnabas did in Acts 14 ...
