May 24 - Memory & More
Key Focus:
- Memorial Day Weekend
- Highlighting some Front Porch opportunities because we live in Abilene and near Dyess
- Time in the Word
- The story of the centurion who came to Jesus for help with his servant who needed healing (Matthew 8:5-13). The focus will be on a soldier, a Centurion who was the highest ranked NCO in the Roman army and would have been skilled and battle hardened, who instantly recognized Jesus' authority.
- As we remember as a nation the cost paid by those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their nation, let's remember something the soldiers in the NT show us!
- That Jesus was a strong, powerful and influential man - not the wimp of the movies - who was respected by those who were considered "a man's man" in their day.
- One of the most hardened of all, a member of the crucifixion brigade, recognized Jesus as the Son of God at the Cross.
- Every Centurion we meet in the NT saw Jesus and his followers in a positive light, including Cornelius who was the first Gentile baptized and accepted by the Jerusalem church.

For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
