October 18, 2009 - He's Still Got the Whole World in His Hands:

#4 - What's in Our Hands

Key Focus:

  • We pray, "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." But, do we do the work of the Kingdom. Are we about what Jesus did when God's Kingdom broke into our world and dramatically touched people's lives? Part of the presence of Jesus that people need to feel in their storms, in our broken world, is us: us stepping out and being the hands of Jesus and doing the work of the Kingdom. And the amazing thing is that when we do ... we experience Jesus, we touch Jesus, and we are Jesus to a world that doesn't know Him.

Idea Bin:

  • Dramatic Piece or Video: Skeptics Voice -- "Remember the question my friend asked from session two? 'That's all you Christers do is pray. Why don't you get off your duff and do something productive to make a difference?' It's a good question, right! You talk about Kingdom come, so why don't see any of the Kingdom stuff in my world. All I seem to see is kingdom fluff!"
  • Yeah, that's a great question. Some of us have asked it ourselves!
    • If We Are the Body ...
      • Ouch, that's too convicting, maybe we'd better move on ... but let's not ... let's have that settle over us
    • We claim that Jesus came to address this mess we call our world -- to make it better, to heal what is broken, to give new hope to old stuff, to be present and share our mess so we could know we weren't abandoned.
      • So here's what he tells us. "As the Father sent me, so I am sending you. ... You are my Body. Remember every Sunday, when you share in this bread, my Body, you are made into my Body, my presence in the world. You want to see the Kingdom come in your world, then look at your hands, they're my hands. Just sign my name and you will see the scars. Into your hands I place my power!"
    • About this time, the Christers invite the Yabbotts in for a visit.
      • Yeah, but we don't have the money
      • Yeah, but we don't have the time
      • Yeah, but we don't have the talent
      • Yeah, but the problems are too big
    • Well, I've got some baptized Yabbotts
      • Yeah, but I am with you ... always
      • Yeah, but I have poured out my Spirit and He will give you the words to say
      • Yeah, but I have not given you a spirit of timidity, but of love, power, and self-discipline
      • Yeah, but if you bring your challenges to me ... don't you remember what I can do?
        • Feed 5,000
        • Make mummies come alive
        • Restore wilted limbs
        • Heal broken hearts
        • Still troubled spirit
      • You go do that, and guess what ... you'll see me, feel me, and be me to your broken world and know that I am not gone or distant or imaginary, I am still with you and in you until we can share home together!
