April 4, 2010 - Dawn of the New Way (pt. 2):

When Everything Changed (1 Corinthians 15:1-7; Acts 15:12-19)

Kernel Message:

  • Dawn of the New Way:

Focuses on James, the brother of Jesus, and how he disbelieved in Jesus until the resurrection.

This will be done narrative style at first, beginning with James getting ready to speak at the Jerusalem conference on Gentiles and tracing how he got there.

It will emphasize that James meeting his resurrected brother, Jesus, changed everything for him ... and it can do the same for us!

Practical Pieces of the Message:

  • Jesus' siblings, especially focusing on James, did not believe in Jesus
  • Their faith in him is tied to his resurrection
  • Before the resurrection, there were a number of owies, wounds, hurts, and disgraces they endured as Jesus' siblings
  • But the resurrection changed everything (compare John 7:1-5 with 1 Corinthians 15:1-7)
  • By the Jerusalem conference, and for years afterward, James was known as James the Just and was the key leader in Jerusalem for those called "Followers of the Way" (Acts 22:4) who believed that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God (see James 1:1)

Key Point:

  • The resurrection is the turning point for us as well!
  • Just as the way of the Jesus led him to the Cross, it also led him through the resurrection
    1. Parallel 1 Corinthians 15:1-7 and Romans 6:3-5
    2. We can follow this new way and meet the resurrected Jesus at work in our life and our spiritual family if we will look for Him

  • Mark 3:20-21, 31-35
  • John 7:1-5
  • 1 Corinthians 15:1-7
