Filled to Overflowing (Ephesians 5:15-21; John 7:37-39)

Key Question:  How can I have more of the Holy Spirit in my life? Can I be filled with the Spirit more than I am now? How do I "pray in the Spirit"?

Kernel Message:

1. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would well within us with the water of life!
2. The book of Acts makes clear that those who have the Holy Spirit can be filled and empowered with more of the Holy Spirit.
3. We do this by asking God to give us the Spirit (Luke 11:13 and last two weeks!) and do what turns the Holy Spirit loose in our lives (Ephesians 1, 3, 5, 6 cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:8):
   • Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs
   • Sing
   • Make music in our hearts to God
   • Give thanks to God in the name of Jesus
   • Submit to one another to honor and revere Christ
   • Seek God's will in Scripture
   • Pray

Practical Pieces of the Message:

• Scenario:

The water spigot in the back yard, an empty wading pool, and a perfectly good water hose. But it doesn't make any difference until the hose is hooked up to the spigot, the water is turned on, and the hose is put in the pool! Too often, we never connect the hose to the spigot, put the hose in the pool, and ask God to turn on the water! [Do this with pictures as slides!]

• Promise:

We can turn loose the power of the Spirit in our lives and the lives of those we love in Christ.

Key Point:

• We can turn loose the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives by doing the things that allow the Holy Spirit to be at work and fill us: we connect the hose to the spigot and put the hose in the pool and then ask God to turn on the water!
