September 12 - Servant Leaders at Southern Hills
Acts 6
Sunday Morning: Daybreak & Refresh
- Special pastoral prayer by an elder at each service that should come after the message
- Using Acts 6 to explain the process we are about to begin looking for men to serve in caring for needs based ministry in our life as a chuch family.
- Scripture Reading: Acts 6:1-7
- Tie into the Dark Side of the Mountain series by talking about an awful, embarrassing problem, and how the way the early church addressed it opened the door for even greater outreach.
- Key Points:
[Tie into our process and plan and give the specific areas they are to prayerfully find servant leaders]
- Clear, specific, people-care needs in the body that was consuming apostles time and getting them off their primary task
- Men selected by the church
- Not a popularity context, but based on their suitability to help - notice all Greek surnames and one a proselyte
- This is spiritual and personal ministry, so being full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom were crucial
- The apostles, and the church, turned this over to them - responsibility and authority
- They were publicly recognized by the apostles
- The people supported and affirmed the move
- The church was built up and grew
