September 19 - The Scarlet Cord

(Rahab and the beginning of great things after a problem past)

[Possible Kid's Story?] Celebration Sunday

Sunday Morning: Daybreak & Refresh

  • Special pastoral prayer by an elder at each service that could come anywhere WL feels best fits
  • Joshua 2 & 6; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25-26; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
  • Rahab was very concerned about family and her "livelihood" was very likely her way of taking care of her family, but unwanted. God's spies provide the way.
  • She begins a new life and a way to take care of her family.
  • She ends up in the lineage of Jesus and proclaimed by Matthew's genealogy.
  • She is in the message, because she is the message: not only can we change, not only can we be redeemed, but we can be useful, valuable, and part of the story of grace!
  • Focus: No matter our past, God gives us fresh starts and these often come in our most hopeless moments of dark despair, but we can leave the guilt of our past behind and make a new story, God's Story, in us.
