October 10 - Hem of the Garment
(David Shows Respect in a Moment of Opportunity)
Sunday Morning: Daybreak & Refresh
- 1 Samuel 24:1-14; cf. 1 Peter
- Scripture Reading: Isaiah 40:28-31
- David had faithfully served Saul, and when Saul rebelled against God, David had been anointed King by Samuel. But his life was filled with nothing but trouble and hardship. Saul hunted him like a stray dog he wanted to track down and kill. David had suffered many things, but even in this moment, when he has the opportunity to take Saul's life, he refuses. He will not become what he hates -- a heart that does not honor God, God's will, and God's leaders.
- David reminds us that the wait can be hard, but the timing belongs to the Lord.
- Focus: How we act in the darkest of our moments, especially when we have the opportunity to further our own interest using questionable or unethical or immoral tactics, reveals who owns our heart.
Sunday Evening: Sundown 10/10
