April 24, 2011 — Resurrection Sunday
Jesus Raised to Defeat our Fear!
Resurrection Sunday
Core Ideas:
- The Resurrected Jesus Meets Us and Helps us with our Fear (Matthew 28)
- Held in the Grip of Fear (fear in the accounts & Hebrews 2:14-18)
- From Fear to Excitement
- From Fear to Worship
- From Fear to Mission
Idea Flow:
Using Matthew 28 and the movement from being paralyzed by fear to excitement then worship then mission.
The service would parallel these four movements. No long sermon, but short pieces in each movement.
- Enter In:
We begin with our normal pre-video made especially for easter Sunday to welcome folks. Then include a couple of call to worship songs like All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name, We Praise Thee O God (or the opening medley in the hymnal 2,3,4 and sing the dots?).
- Confession:
Comes in this section. We confess to God what fears we have and offer them to him; this could include a welcome & explanation of the service in four movements using Matthew 28. Stephen Corbett would help lead and voice this. We would want to follow this with a couple of resurrection songs.
- Excitement:
We realize Jesus is alive and wants to meet with us - we see good Easter vid and then we share the Supper using Come Share the Lord as our focus song. Key leader for the Lord's Supper piece at each service — Vann at Refresh, and ??? at Daybreak. The kids offering & regular offering could go here, too, especially when couched as a response to Jesus being alive in us.
- Worship:
We fall at the feet of Jesus, like Mary, in surrender and praise. Strong focus on praise in song — all songs except for the intro voiced piece which uses 1 Peter 1:3-9 as Scripture. Phil would do this, inviting us into the time of praise and worship reading Scripture and inviting us into praise.
- Mission:
We hear Jesus' voice calling us to enter into his work, his mission, and then leave the assembly commissioned to share Jesus with others. This would be a "Philaddendum" that moves into the closing vid. Phil needs about 10 minutes for this piece & sending would be a part of it; video follows, and then dismissal after video with a shared blessing of Hebrews 13:20-21.
Key Focus:
- We want this to be an experience of what is shared, dividing the worship into four parts: Facing our Fear, From Fear to Excitement, From Fear to Worship, From Fear to Mission
- Using the framework of Matthew 28 to direct us and our activities:
- Confessing our Fear (Death can make us afraid)
- Celebrating Hope (Jesus is not dead)
- Worshiping the Conqueror (Praise of Jesus in Song)
- Living our Mission (leaving as sent by the Lord)
Key SoHills Emphasis:
- Welcoming Easter Guests, especially follow up from Extravaganza
- Celebrating with joy in Song for the resurrected Savior

- Matthew 28
- Hebrews 2:14-18
- John 20:20-22

- Vidwo Piece for Part 4:"You've Got Seven Days" as a sending video.
